Capes and Crazy Capers

March was a whole lotta fun!  Other than the allergies that gave everyone's sinuses a run for their money (I had a sore throat for 4+ weeks and we were one of at least 5 families in our ward using a humidifier for their toddler/s!) it was pretty nice outside and we avoided major illness or injury.

We had a fun, laid back St. Patrick's Day (green breakfast, friends over, and some time at the park with more friends).
We spent plenty of time at the park, with friends we already knew and with new friends
(This little girl was adorable and was following Atticus around.  He didn't seem to mind a bit.  ;)  So cute!)

He's also becoming more photogenic.  He'll actually stop to say, "Cheese," (or, in the case with his bathrobe, "Hi Mommy!"- I was at a mutual activity at the time).

I wanted to get his walk and run.  Not easy to catch, but oh so cute.

Here's our little boy at our new favorite restaurant (Skinny Fats).  He LOVES this table and this is his favorite spot.  He'll sit and dance to the music while waiting for his food.

My favorite moments and developments of the month:

  • How much he's singing now.  He can sing the whole chorus for "I am a Child of God" and can sing a whole lot from "I Love to See the Temple" and "Book of Mormon Stories."  He's getting better about pitch, too!
  • He suddenly wants to wear neckties (he calls them all "bowties") and capes all the time.  So stinking cute!  Of course, Mom and Dad need to join in the dress up fun.

  • He loves the idea of going to the temple.  Here's one day when he was especially determined.  He got on his plane, packed a lunch, and, with his tie on, kept telling me, "Bye!  Be right back!  Going Church-Temple!"

We've been missing family a little more than usual, so we decided to do something about it.  We're not quite ready for singing telegrams, but I thought we'd try our hand at video messages.  They're pretty darn cute:

This might not have been my favorite part of the month, but it was undoubtedly the most exciting. Early in the month we were watching Atticus's best friend, Bowman, and getting ready to go to the church for a toddler music class.  Everything was normal.  I even had a loaf of bread in the oven I was just about to pull out before heading over.  I went into the garage to put a bag of toys in the car when it happened.  One of those boys locked the door behind me!

There I was, stuck in the garage, no phone or keys to the house on my person.  I immediately started knocking and instructing.  The boys were very agreeable, "Yeah!  Door!  Twist! Yeah!" but not very helpful.  I could sense their attention was waning.  I opened the garage door and ran to the front door and rang the door.  Atticus LOVES it when we have guests and I heard them come running and screaming up to the door.  The trouble was, I had it locked, as well.  As much as I tried, I could not help them understand our plight and the need for them to unlock the door.

Soon, like any two-year-old, they were bored with our games at the door and headed upstairs.  I couldn't hear them and was in a panic.  We've made our home pretty toddler-proof, but still!  Scenarios began playing in my head of the dangerous exploring that could be going on.

I ran to a couple of neighbors (who really didn't know me!) and, after a couple of tries was able to get through to my husband.  After what seemed like an eternity, he came home and opened the door.  I sprinted inside, yelling the boys' names.  I finally found the two of them upstairs.  Wouldn't you know it?  They were fighting over a toy, safe and sound.  The house looked exactly the same as it had before the incident had taken place.

So, other than two burnt bricks in the oven and some parents who were probably put out by our absence at the church, everything turned out okay.  Thank heavens for kind neighbors, a patient, super hero husband, and prayer!

Here are the two culprits.  Don't be fooled by their cute exterior.  They're delinquents, through and through.
